This project for PCB and Aurecon involved 5km of road construction within Holsworthy Barracks. Green Civil Australia was engaged to complete the civil works for these roads.

The scope of works included:

Reconstruction of Sealed Roads:

  • Demolition, excavation and removal of existing asphalt and base course
  • Trimming and compaction of subgrade
  • Supply and installation of 250mm DGS20 subbase course
  • Supply and installation of 150mm DGB20 base course
  • Supply and installation of prime coat AMC0
  • Supply and installation of 45mm AC14 heavy-duty asphalt
  • Grading of batters
  • Construction of concrete edge strips

Reconstruction of Unsealed Roads:

  • Full pavement reconstruction and minor realignment of the existing unsealed gravel
  • Trim and compact subgrade
  • Supply and installation of 200mm DGS20 subbase course
  • Supply and installation of 150mm DGB20 base course
  • Construction of new roadside rip-rap table drains on both sides of the newly reconstructed road pavement for stormwater drainage.
  • Provision of two new rip-rap floodway crossings across low points in the road to improve vehicular access during heavy rainfall events and facilitate the proposed table drains.
  • 300mm concrete pipe and headwalls

Due to the existence of high-voltage overhead power lines and proximity to the airfield base, vital safety measures were implemented throughout the works.

Severe weather was also encountered during the works which caused an adjacent dam to overflow onto the road. Green Civil Australia assisted the client and designers with a design resolution.
